Dr. Brett R. Nelson
Dr. Brett R. Nelson is a distinguished psychiatrist and the owner of the New York Center for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (NYCP). He also serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Four Winds Hospital in Saratoga Springs. His professional journey spans nearly two decades, and he is an alumnus of the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, holding a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Psychology from Augustana University.
Dr. Nelson completed all coursework for a Master's degree in Public Health at the University of Minnesota, providing him with a broad understanding of health care beyond his medical practice. His comprehensive training includes residencies in General Psychiatry at the University of Florida School of Medicine and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of South Florida School of Medicine. This has led to his double board certification in both Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
In addition to his role at Four Winds Hospital, Dr. Nelson oversees patient care at NYCP. His dedication to providing high-quality care has earned him much respect and recognition within the medical community.
Although Dr. Nelson is not currently accepting new patients, he continues to make a significant impact on the field of psychiatry, particularly through his work in improving psychiatric services and care. He has a particular interest in obsessive-compulsive disorder in children, a topic on which he has published multiple research studies.
Dr. Nelson's commitment to advancing his field is further demonstrated by his active membership in professional organizations like the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association. His extensive expertise and patient-centered approach continue to positively influence the field of psychiatry.
Dr. Suzanne Sumida
Dr. Sumida is a distinguished psychiatrist with more than two decades of experience in medical psychiatry. She is a double Board-Certified Psychiatrist, recognized by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). She holds a medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, a Master of Science from the University of Cincinnati McMicken College of Arts and Science, and a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College.
Dr. Sumida’s extensive training includes a residency in Psychiatry at the University Hospital Department of Psychiatry and a Child Psychiatry Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center. This rigorous training, coupled with her years of experience, has equipped her with the skills and knowledge to help her patients overcome significant mental health challenges.
Prior to joining NYCP, Dr. Sumida served her clients at Four Winds Saratoga on an outpatient basis, providing comprehensive and personalized care. She also held the position of Assistant Professor in the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine's psychiatry department, showcasing her commitment to teaching and mentoring the next generation of psychiatrists.
Dr. Sumida is an active member of the American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, reflecting her dedication to her field and her commitment to staying updated with the latest developments in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Away from her professional life, Dr. Sumida is an avid equestrian and enjoys spending quality time with her horses. Her love for animals extends beyond her professional life, providing a sense of balance and relaxation.
Rebekah Nelson, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Rebekah is a seasoned professional in the nursing field, with a career that spans over two decades. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing - Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from Russell Sage College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from SUNY Brockport, and an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in Nursing from Monroe Community College.
Currently, she serves as a Nurse Practitioner at NYCP, specializing in mental health care across the lifespan. Rebekah's approach to care is proactive, patient-centric, and tailored to each patient's unique needs. She has a remarkable ability to connect with patients of all ages, particularly children and teenagers. Her open and understanding treatment approach is appreciated by her young patients and their parents alike, making her a trusted figure in their care.
In addition to her role as a Nurse Practitioner, Rebekah is the Chief Operating Officer at NYCP. In this role, she oversees the day-to-day operations, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the organization.
Rebekah's nursing career is well-rounded, with extensive experience in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine. She is an active member of both the American Nurses Association and The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State, reflecting her commitment to her profession.
When she isn't tending to her professional responsibilities, Rebekah enjoys spending quality time with her three daughters. An avid lover of the outdoors, she relishes in activities like gardening, hiking, and camping. Amidst her busy schedule, she finds solace in reading, a testament to her lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
